Snags happen – maybe your sleeve caught on a branch or your tote bag brushed a bit too hard. But don’t worry! A little snag doesn’t mean the end of your cardi’s good looks. With a calm approach and the right tools, you can fix it without stretching or damaging the knit.
First Things First: Don’t Pull!
It’s tempting, but tugging on a snag can stretch out the yarn or unravel your cardi. Instead, take a breath, grab a comfy seat, and follow these simple steps.
The Gentle Fix
What you’ll need:
-
A crochet hook, sewing needle, or bobby pin
-
Good lighting
-
A steady hand!
Step 1: Turn your cardigan inside out.
Step 2: Gently push the snag back through the fabric using your hook or needle. The goal is to pull the loop to the inside, hiding it from view.
Step 3: Pull the loop evenly so it blends back into the knit. You can use a needle to tease surrounding stitches and even out any tension.
Step 4: If the yarn is very long on the inside, you can pull a tiny piece out and back in again, making sure it blend in with the design texture.
Step 5: Secure it with a tiny stitch using a matching thread – just make sure it doesn’t show through to the front – or you can tie a little knot on the inside, making sure it won't pull to the other side again!
Aftercare
Give your cardi a gentle steam (not too close!) to help the knit relax back into place. Then lay it flat and let it settle.
When in Doubt...
If the snag is big, or you're nervous about fixing it, it’s totally okay to ask a friend with crafty skills or a local tailor to help. Better safe than sorry!
Snags are just a sign that your cardi is living life with you – and with a little care, it’ll keep going strong.
